Flat Panel Display

Flat-Panel Devices are devices that have less volume, weight, and power consumption compared to Cathode Ray Tube (CRT). Due to the advantages of the Flat-Panel Display, the use of CRT decreased. As Flat Panel Devices are light in weight that’s why they can be hung on walls and wear them on our wrist like a watch. Flat Panel Display (FPD) allows users to view data, graphics, text and images.

The Flat-Panel display refers to a class of video devices that have reduced volume, weight and power requirements compared to CRT.

What Does Flat Panel Display Mean?

A flat panel display is a television, monitor or other display appliance that uses a thin panel design instead of a traditional cathode ray tube (CRT) design. These screens are much lighter and thinner and can be much more portable than traditional televisions and monitors. They also have higher resolution than older models.

Example: Small T.V. monitor, calculator, pocket video games, laptop computers, an advertisement board in the elevator.

1. Emissive Display: Emissive displays are devices that convert electrical energy into light. Examples are Plasma panels, thin-film electroluminescent display and LED (Light Emitting Diodes).

2. Non-Emissive Display: The Non-Emissive displays use optical effects to convert sunlight or light from some other source into graphics patterns. Examples are LCD (Liquid Crystal Device).

Advantages of Flat Panel Devices:

  • Flat Panel Devices like LCD produces high-quality digital images.

  • Flat Panel monitors are stylish and have a very space-saving design.

  • Flat Panel Devices consumes less power and give maximum image size in minimum space.

  • Flat Panel Devices use its full-colour display capability.

  • Full motion video can be viewed on Flat Panel Devices without artefacts or contrast loss.

Flat-panel displays are used to provide the alpha-numeric display information on laptop computers, automobile and aeroplane instrument panels, calculators, gas pumps, and many other products requiring the digital display of information. Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are by far the most prevalent FPD in use today.

New flat-panel displays utilize a liquid crystal display (LCD) display. This system lights up various pixels on the screen. The simple and small infrastructure of flat panel displays allows for the manufacturing of extremely light and portable screens, which are popular for personal and business use. Some of the newest features of flat panel displays include new organic LED lighting techniques that allow for bendable display screens. Companies are experimenting with panoramic displays that are curved rather than flat.
